  • Budapest. Budapest, Hungary’s capital and largest city, is considered one of Europe’s most beautiful cities. One of the best places to visit in Hungary, Budapest is home to the world’s largest thermal water cave system as well as the world’s second largest synagogue and third largest Parliament building, the city’s top attraction. You’ll find spectacular views of the Danube and the city from Fishermen’s Bastion, originally part of the city wall. A poignant memorial to Jews killed in World War II can be found at Shoes of the Danube, where Jews removed their shoes before being shot and washed away by the river.
  • Lake Balaton. When relaxing at a resort becomes more appealing to you than walking another cobblestone street to see another medieval building, head to Lake Balaton. Europe’s largest freshwater lake is also Hungary’s most popular summer resort. It’s so big it’s sometimes referred to as the “Hungarian Sea,” a delightful misnomer since the country is landlocked. Grass covers many of the beaches, though some resorts have created artificial sandy beaches. Siofok is the lake’s party capital, while ferries at Fonyod take passengers to Badacsony, a major wine-growing region. The north shore offers more wineries, the historical bathing town of Balatonfured, and the baroque Festetics Castle.
  • Sopron. Established in Roman times, Sopron has been both an Austrian and Hungarian city over the centuries. A 1921 vote decided it should be part of Hungary, earning Sopron the nickname of “Most Loyal Town.” The Gate of Allegiance honors this. It is located on the main square next to the city landmark Firewatch Tower. The city was devastated by World War II, though many of its medieval buildings escaped damage. Sopron today is one of Hungary’s major wine producing regions, one of the few famous for both its red and white wines. Great hiking is available in the nearby Alps.

World Time

At the traveling time, it is often necessary to adapt to local time, especially when transferring to another transport. I am very interested to know where I am going: to the 'future' or to the 'past', and for how many hours. The time zone map helps with this. I only need to click on country to see the time!

Italy   Italy is a traveller’s paradise. From snow capped mountains to lazy Mediterranean beaches and from unspoilt villages to bustling cities, it has something to offer every visitor. Being a history buff, I decide to visit Rome, Florence and Venice on my trip to Italy.   Rome, the capital of Italy is also called the ‘Eternal City’. My first stop is the Vatican City. Here I visit the Sistine Chapel, the official residence of the Pope, and St. Peters Basilica, one of the greatest churches in the world. I come out of the cathedral and stroll around the square, built by Bernini, soaking in the beauty of the place. My next stop is the Colosseum. Built for 50,000 spectators, it is the biggest amphitheatre in the world.   With canals for streets, Venice is truly unique. The perfect way to see the beauty of Venice is to lose oneself in the labyrinth of its alleys and canals. I fulfill my long standing dream by taking a gondola ride down the Grand Canal. Prague. This gem of the Vltava river has an 1100 year history of being culturally grand and important. Prague has been the capital of Bohemia and of the Roman Empire. It flourished during both the Gothic and Renaissance eras. It is still the largest city in the Czech Republic and one of the most culturally rich and diverse, and has architectural and artistic highlights from many different centuries and architectural aesthetics.  Prague  is one of the top ten most visited European cities, with a good look at the tapestry of a millennium of architecture. Top sites include architecture like castles and cathedrals, the picturesque Charles Bridge. Lovers of Kafka can see his home and the cemetery where he was buried.
